It is strawberry season, my friends, and there is nothing quite like homemade strawberry jam! I will no longer be offering classes through the Sarasota Extension Office, but I will be teaching at Crowley Folk School, Florida House, and Palmetto Art Center in the coming weeks! All three classes are hands-on basic canning classes covering safety, equipment, and the boiling water bath technique. By learning this method, you will be able to safely and confidently can everything from jams to pickles to fruit!  We will be making strawberry jam from fresh, local berries as well as sampling and discussing various homemade preserves. All supply costs are included in the class fee, so come on out and join us!

Also, if you have a group of friends who want to learn to can, please contact me about setting up a private “canning party”!  Apart from receiving the same instruction you’d get in a class, you can make these as informal and fun as you and your friends would like – I believe the next one I have scheduled includes mimosas 😉
